I just applied for a teaching job with ELS in Oman. Does anyone have any information about teaching in that country. Thanks Monica Murphy

Hi Monica,

I'd have to assume that you have done some research before applying for a job in the middle east. Are you looking primarily to make money?

Also do you have any prior teaching experience?

Dear CC:
Yes, I do have experience- nine years altogether. I have done most of my overseas teaching in China, and I like it very much, but I haven't been able to save anything there. I did choose Oman because of the money. I am a woman, 59 years old, and I don't know a lot about the country. Can you fill me it? Thanks. Monica

The money is understandable...and you should be able to make a good deal of it. I'm not sure how much freedom you will have as a woman but if you don't plan on spending the rest of your life there you should be okay.

Dear Seashore:
I don't plan on spending the rest of my life in Oman, but I have heard that some people really love it.
I taught in China before, and wasn't able to save anything there; so I am looking forward to putting some money aside, and also to experiencing a new culture.

Monica,

I was also looking at the middle east. As a follow-up, can you let us know if you are actually taking that job with ELS as it appears some months have gone by now.

What would be the preferred country in the region? I heard Saudi's a lot safer now, but you wouldn't want to set foot in Abu Dhabi?

Anyway give me an update on the Oman job first and foremost

Cheers, Peace, and may you live in interesting times

Rog

Dear Roger:
Sorry I took so long to answer your letter. I didn't open it until now. Yes, I took the job in Oman and so far I am enjoying it. Please write if you have any questions. Monica (monicateacher@hotmail.com).

Dear Roger:
So far I am enjoying it here, but there are so challenges: eg we are staying in a guest house because our apartments are not ready and they don't give us our own computers so we have to use the ones in the teachers' room, and there are 5 computers and 50 teachers. It's hot but the aircons work. Gotta go and plan some lessons. Monica[/b]

Hey,

Good to see you got computers. Is the web censored there like in China?
