|

I have currently been working in Korea for 1.5 years and have seen a lot of my mates (and me) go through the typical horror stories. I live about 50 minutes out of Seoul which is cheap and close to the action. I've come across some really great directors here whilst helping my director build a successful and viable school. I have shared western business ethics with them, and helped them get past the 'traditional' form of Korean education. I now am in the position to recommend and organise some jobs for people just out of Seoul. I know these schools will give you all the benifits you deserve in a real contract. Please let me know if you are interested and I can organise an interview and the contract to be posted out to you.
Any more questions???
Give me a email on jnandagopan@hotmail.com
Or if your in Korea call on 0198253268
Peace

Actually, you are essentially a recruiter, are you not?
I'd like to investigate getting jobs directly with schools in Korea, I mean how to insure I do this, and not focus on just your job only, which will really limit me.
Can anyone provide general advice on how to get a job in Korea NOT!!!! through a recruiter?
Thanks and cheers to all of you forum-meisters,
Dickie |

Actually I couldn't care less if you took a job through me or not. I teach here and have come accross some opportunities to teach at some decent schools that actually pay you and have an idea about teaching. Many friends I have been burnt by a number of schools in the past so I was trying to help people avoid the same situation. If you can speak Korean there are heaps of Korean websites with listings of all hugwons and government schools out there. Also if you want to actually speak to a director of the school about 10% (at a guess) of them speak English.
Good luck though!
Peace

To find jobs not via recruiters post your resume and details at www.eslpro.com or www.eslteachersboard.com. Many directors go to these sites to select employees. This allows the employers to 'come' to you. You may also receive mail from recruiters.
Good luck! _________________ "Your playing small doesn't serve the world. Who are you not to be great." Nelson Mandela |

Recruiters can be both good and bad. I have read online of many horror stories, however the people that I met " in real life" only had good things to say about them. I have never used one but have witnessed how people who have done so have had an easier time when it came to any contractual disputes or indeed even needed to break a contract ( a big no no) .
My advice - do some research, talk to people "in the know" if you can and use your gut instinct. |

Do yourself a tremendous favour and avoid recruiter's name removed After setting me up with an interview at Avalon School in Seoul and following the positive feedback from the interviewer, Kevin, a decent American fellow at Avalon School, I accepted the job offer. Recruiter's name removed sent me the contract pressuring me to sign, threatening that I would lose the position if I didn't send it in immediately. I have taught English overseas for seven years in four different countries. I know how important a written contract is. I took a weekend to consider Avalon's 12 month-30 hr/week obligations, then, on Monday, I signed and shipped it back with my original diploma, sealed transcripts, etc (the cost: $120 CAD). I didn't hear back from recruiter's name removed for nearly two weeks (so much for the urgency) in which time I turned down other job offers since I committed myself to recruiter's name removed When I finally heard back from recruiter's name removed, he told me that Avalon requested another interview. So after another lively and successful interview from Kevin, who once again recommended me and assured me the process would go smoothly, I received a curt message from recruiter's name removed telling me the interview did not go well and Avalon did not intend to honour their agreement. Don't be fooled by this man's slippery demeanor. recruiter's name removed purposely soiled my relationship with the school. He pretends to befriend the teachers he lures in only to bitterly stab them in the back. In short, recruiter's name removed is a liar, a fake and a slime ball. I strongly suggest that you avoid this person if you can.
