Hi
I know that this question has come up before, but it's my first question as a first timer!
I'm a South African with a four-year BA university degree in English. I'm looking at teaching in Europe (particularly eastern Europe).
I've done some research and it seems that many programmes in that region offer a training course and then a job placement - but is it easy enough to bypass the training and go straight into a job without a teaching qualification?
And if so, where is the best place to find schools who will hire non-qualified teachers?
I'd appreciate any advice!
David

Hi - I'm a teacher in Eastern Europe (in the Baltics). I think you're going to find that it is much more difficult - though not impossible - to land a job teaching English without the TESOL or CELTA in Europe. It's also going to be harder to find work unless you have an EU passport. This is because there are a lot of extra costs involved in getting residency and work permits and most schools, though certainly not all, are unwilling to incur these costs. If you do find a school willing to hire you without a formal teaching qualification, then I think you should ask yourself how committed the school is to providing quality teaching; and if they're less than interested in providing quality for their customers are they going to be a quality employer? Just a thought.
