Hello All,

This is my first posting so let's hope it evokes lots of helpful information.

I am interested in teaching ESL to staff of high end hotels/resorts.

What is the best way to identify those select hotels/resorts?

Are there agencies that facilitate such placements?

Thanks, PC

PC you're talking about a very high end field with very many well established professionals working for those companies already. You'll most likely not find such work unless you have quite a bit of relevant experience.

Hi Lexicon and Others,

Remaining humble I am still asking for the process one might follow to find a key ESL spot in the resort field.

I have years of teaching experience and several years as an ESL teacher. I hold a doctorate degree and vast business experience.

Do I qualify now to get the "skinny" on my search for a seasonal resort position?

Thanks, PC

Not necessarily. What will get your foot in the door would be having extensive experience in HRTM or some related hospitality field.

If you feel you have the experience then what you'll want to do is google EFL+hotel or something like that and look for course providers that operate in the geographic area in which you are interested in working.

Then contact them and submit your CV and application packet to them. Most resorts will only go with established providers as the training is generally contracted from the corporate level.

Otherwise you can take the approach of going to a local hotel and offering to deliver a free demonstration course to the customer service staff. If you impress them, they may be willing to move your solicitation up the ladder.

Be warned however that teaching a language within the HRTM field is very labor intensive as you will have to write most all of your course materials yourself. You'll have to do much more hands-on training and the amount of prep time you'll do is much higher than in other ESL fields.

I speak from experience as one of the few out there who have designed, written, and successfully delivered these classes.

The other side of this issue is that the economy for this industry is still quite poor and they have very little room in the budget for training at present.
