Hi

I am a CELTA qualified EFL teacher with 5 years' experience in the UK and abroad who is thinking about offering private tuition in London.

Does anybody know what the going rate is?

With many thanks

Kate

It depends to a certain extent on who you are teaching, what level they are and what you think the market can charge (e.g. you can charge a rich business person more than poor parents).

I think 25 pounds an hour is a good starting point.

I like this point very much.

It's not like selling t-shirts or cigarettes - same price regardless of client.

There's a lot of slack in the ranges.
Try doubling your charge and notice who will take the bait.
Try halving your charge and notice the crap you pick up along the way.

I mean a higher fee can filter out the fickle shoppers.
