| Greetings! I wanted to ask opinions of any one who might care. This is about my apllication in Greece as an ESL teacher. I applied in this website from their job postings. I was luckily answered by the employer and have completed the requirements they asked. I was considered for the job and even send me the scannnedcopy of the contract, but they are asking me to send 400 euro to serve as a commitment fee and to know the level of my seriosness in working with them. I am actually from the Philippines and hold a Philippine Passport, my problem here is that, how can I be sure that this is not some kind of scam. One thing more, from my research on Visa preparations, It'll be hard for a Filipino Citizen like me to obtain such. Could you give me advise on what should I do about this. I am really serious about this job but I dont want to have another experience on scams on line. Please, Please!! |

Maga dang a maga?
Your query has been answered in the following

There should be no problem with a visa, once you have had a job offer, because the employer will apply for a work permit, at no cost to you.

Hi Mango, DO NOT send these people any money, it is definately a SCAM. There are no circumstances when a prospective employer should ask a candidate for money.
This job did not exist and it was simply a way of fooling gullible applicants into sending money to an anonymous person in Greece. If you send any money YOU WILL NEVER HEAR FROM THEM AGAIN.
Here is the text of the reply I sent them when they asked me for a "committment fee". I suggest you do the same.

Sir, With reference to your e-mail requesting that I send you the sum of 420 euro as a 'refundable deposit'.
I have never in my whole career been asked to send money to a prospective employer and despite your comments about "commitment fee and seriousness" I can only deduce that you are operating a confidence trick designed to extract money from gullible aplicants.
I AM NOT ONE OF THEM.
I shall report your illegal scheme to the authorities. I am not without contacts in Greece if indeed that is where you are operating from.
I shall keep my money in my pocket and advise other teachers who may be taken in by your lies to do the same via web sites which offer genuine jobs.
Up Yours

Hello, I would like to warn all the teachers applied for this job in Greece. I also applied for it and they asked me to pay a deposit of 420 euro as they explained "for ticket and for other formalities connected with obtaining visa and also because they are many teachers who refuse to come because they found a better paid job". I wrote an email asking for details and they never answered. I think that administration of this site must check employers to prevent situations like this. |

| I got the same reply-- Kingston International School, right? I had some people I know in Athens check it out and they said it doesn't exist. It's a scam. I've already sent all emails exchanged between me and them to the Greek embassy. I recommend everyone do the same so we can get these guys off of websites like this one. |

Kamusta ka? I am an ESL teacher currently teaching in Zagreb, Croatia. Like you, I am also a Filipino Citizen holding the green passport. Your question seem to be very interesting. I have read the replies of the other members of the forum and I absolutely agree with them. I hope you did not pay anything to these people who are asking you to give them a certain amount of money. Briefly, I have worked in a recruitment agency in Croatia and we had experienced before that the employers themselves are sending money or plane ticket to provide transport and accomodation to the prospective employee. So this case is really odd. Furthermore, the employer is the one who is supposed to arrange for your working permit and visa as they are the ones who need you ( my employer did the same to me.) If you need more information, please email me at curica41@yahoo.com
Please be careful because there are a lot of scams here in Europe ( well, all over the world for that matter.) Let me share with you an experience with a Croatian co teacher of mine. Last year, she got attracted to an ad to teach children for 3000 EU for a month for the whole summer. The ad said that all the teacher has to do is to conceptualize interesting activities for the kids for the whole summer. So, she sent all the requirements. Then the employer replied and asked for her pics and told her more info about the company, which she found out that the company sponsors summer camp for nudist.
And that they need somebody who would teach the kids in the camp meaning, the teacher herself should be in the "nude" from time to time. Uhmmmm ...isn't that interesting?
But I wrote a letter calling the attention of the manpower HR website where she got the ad incase they are not aware of the background of their clients.
Some ads could be misleading like this one. So please be cautious in replying to teaching ads.
Email me!
