Information on Online or Distance training courses would be appreciated. I have noted that there are more than a handful to say the least. Does anyone have any guidance or general criteria to work of on choosing one?

Thanks,

FJ

Farmerjohn,

Sure, choose the one that will actually let you communicate with recent graduates of the program. This means to steer clear of brand new ones, unless you're a gambler.

If the program is for real, then its owners should let you talk to successful graduates who've actually found work with that particular certificate. If you sense that it's an "in-house" deal only [in other words, the cert is only good for a job with "them" - and no written guarantee is offered], run away.

After you've spoken to the graduates, take the time and spend the money to telephone the actual school they claim to work for and ask if that particular "cert" would be adequate for getting work there [take my word for it: it will be cheaper than a wasted airplane ticket: see the girl's post over HERE.]

Also, go to the extra trouble to contact the actual schools you'd like to work for and ask if they would accept the certificate in question. Always ask which ones they "normally" get from applicants or prefer.

After that, go onto forums like that this one and ask about the particular cert. program you are thinking about giving your money. You might be surprised to find that some regions of the world prefer one type over the other. There's a lot of jokers out there so be careful and remain skeptical of "free" ones. In my experience, if it seems too good to be true, it oftentimes is.

Hope this helps!
