I've done some tutoring for adult ESL students and I've decided that I enjoy it. I intend to continue tutoring, but eventually i may want to step it up to teaching. I live in the Louisville, Kentucky area and I'm curious as to how I could break into teaching ESL to adults. Obviously, if I wanted to teach children I could teach in the public school system. That is always an option...but I would prefer to work with adults. Over the past few years I've learned that Louisville has become something of a hub for refugees from Africa and parts of the Middle East, so I know ESL is a necessity in this area. I know the local colleges would possibly need teachers, but at this time I only have a BA in English and that won't cut it at the college level. What types of businesses would hire ESL teachers? I don't see many advertisements for these sorts of positions on places like career builder or indeed. Any suggestions?
