I think there was a thread (but I can't find it) throwing out the question of whether we English teachers are helping to stomp out some of the world's languages. (FWIW I don't t hink we are - there are too many other factors).

Interested to see this article on how MICROSOFT WINDOWS is helping to save one of the old (Aztec, I think) languages of Peru.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14514949/

I also saw a short article recently on how SCRABBLE is helping to save one of the North American Indian languages (can't remember which - not Navajo, but one of the other main ones).

So maybe things will finally start getting BETTER for the world's small and threatened languages.

Very interesting indeed! Microsoft, the great homogenizer. I like it.

I've always found it ironic and depressing that it is difficult to find courses in Nahuatl language study in Mexico - language of the Aztecs and other tribes.
