Like so many questions in life, there isn't really a short answer to this! Theoretically it isn't possible to work in the EU unless you have a passport from one of the 15 "old" EU member states OR unless your employer is willing to undergo the process of obtaining a work visa for you. It is definitely much, much harder to get a job in the EU if you have a passport from a non-EU country (even a passport from one of the "new" accession countries won't be of much use to you in most places) BUT it isn't impossible. If you are there in person, looking for a job and they really, really need a teacher asap and they just haven't been having much luck with getting one AND you can show that you've got what it takes, then a school may think it is worth their time and effort to get you a work visa - even though this process can be quite time consuming and expensive in certain EU countries. As a Canadian who has lived and worked throughout Europe for over 15 years now (I became a UK citizen in 1994), I can tell you that it's infinitely easier to get work with an EU passport.
