NOTICE TO ESL & TEFL TEACHERS: There are no certified standards for TEFL courses that are internationally accepted, and therefore plenty of people throw courses together online with either stolen or self-created curriculum and easily print up certificates. It is a money grab and they count on your ignorance to make a fast buck. Others pretend to be some official "Review" site that you can trust and believe. Here is what you need to know to avoid being duped out of your money. https://ruqqus.com/+TeachInChina/post/4ixr/fraud-warning-trustedteflreviewscom-is-a-brilliant No, we are not now, nor ever was in the TEFL business but we do independent investigations for the CFTU and CTA from time to time, and neither of them offer TEFL courses. |

I have been teaching in China and Korea for almost 9 years and I have to say I have seen at least 200 different TEFL courses come through my email and when I checked the Blacklists at the China Teachers Alliance, half of them turned out to be frauds, including some of the "TEFL Course Review" sites which off course, rate their own TEFL Courses as the best! Gee what a surprise!
I finally took my 120 course at Beijing Normal University which is the major Teacher's University in China and not only got the most valued TEFL certificate in China but got 3 college credits for it as well and only paid $300 for the course.
Anyway, before shelling out your money (especially for a sketchy online course) I suggest you all visit https://reddit.com/r/TEFLscams or https://ruqqus.com/+TEFLBlacklist or if you are in China, go to one of the China Teachers Alliance meetings or better yet, their free workshops. Relax, they don't sell anything and most of their members are bilingual Chinese English teachers, but foreigners are always welcome. |

Thank you for raising this subject which most people don't want to talk about because so many referral fees are being paid by operators of fake TEFL courses that hundreds of victims are being created every day. https://ruqqus.com/+/teflblacklist and https://reddit.com/r/CFTU really explain the details of 395 scams and 39 of them are about TEFL Courses. If not for reading this post here I never would have given this a second thought and get me investigating online. So again, thanks for post. |
