Hello, how are you? I'm planning to move to Toronto to look for work in teaching ESL. I'd like to know some info about the good schools to work for, as well as not-so-good ones to avoid.

I'm looking for a school with a well established curriculum to follow with materials they provide for you... I'm still learning about teaching ESL so I'm hoping to work in a more structured environment (from the looks of things, it seems like some schools throw everything on you, kind of thing).

I was wondering too if it's possible to find work in private schools in Toronto without having a TESL Ontario certificate. I've taken an accredited course (with practicum and all that), and I have teaching experience abroad, but I haven't applied for the certificate yet. It will be a few months until I can... however I'm fully eligible for it.

Well, thanks so much for your time,

Collin

Go to Craigslist Toronto and Canadian Job Bank and you'll see what kind of things are out there.
TESL Ontario is for government funded programmes mainly, so no it's not important (I've also read some pretty harsh criticisms of it). For private schools they mainly ask for TESL Canada accreditation; visit their website to find out about how to get your course accredited with them. If it's not CELTA and it comes from outside Canada, they will do it but it'l take longer and cost more coz it has to go thru a thing called PLAR. if it's CELTA it's just an extra $100.
