I have 12 years experience teaching ESL and am currently seeking employment. The language school opportunities in my city are extremely limited. The only jobs which seem to be available are at community colleges and universities. They all require a Masters degree.

Does anyone out there have experience with any TESL/Linguistics Masters programs? Can you recommend a good one? Did getting one help you find a good job?

Thanks.

Most TESOL/TESL masters programs don't teach you much of anything. If you go for a linguistics degree there are only 10-20 programs in the country that are worth their salt. The Ivy leagues have good programs. Also Tulane, University of Texas, University of Arizona, and Penn State are good.

Most others are pretty weak on content.

If your goal is merely to teach, you'll be better off finding an education degree program with an ESL emphasis. They're cheaper, easier, and more widely accepted.
